Our international work

Pharmacy practice in Great Britain influences standards of care worldwide. Great Britain has a highly skilled pharmacy workforce, a strong research base and an advanced pharmaceutical industry.

As the professional leadership body for pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists, the Royal College of Pharmacy works internationally to advance pharmacy practice and improve the safe and effective use of medicines.

Through international engagement, we share expertise, contribute to professional standards and learn from and inform best practice across health systems. This strengthens pharmacy practice in Great Britain while supporting improved patient care globally.

Global collaboration and professional leadership

We have a long history of international collaboration. In 1912, we were a founding member of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), and we continue to work closely with FIP, the Commonwealth Pharmacists Association, the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists and the European Industrial Pharmacists Group.

These long-standing relationships reflect our commitment to shared professional leadership, enable us to contribute to international policy and practice discussions, and help us stay connected to the latest developments in pharmacy across a range of settings.

Strengthening practice and patient care worldwide

Many tools and learning materials developed in Great Britain are adapted for use internationally, with insights applied from overseas practice to strengthen care. We work with peer organisations worldwide to exchange learning, share resources and support the development of pharmacy practice. This includes professional visits, conference participation and engagement with international networks.

Pharmaceutical Press, the Royal College of Pharmacy’s knowledge business, supports health professionals globally to make confident decisions about the safe and effective use of medicines, strengthening patient safety and health outcomes.

International work is embedded across the College, drawing on specialist expertise and the knowledge of our members and expert groups. This ensures our international engagement remains responsive, pharmacist-led and focused on improving outcomes for patients.
