Epimax Ointment and Epimax Paraffin-Free Ointment – reports of ocular surface toxicity and ocular chemical injury

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is continuing to receive reports of ocular surface toxicity and ocular chemical injury where patients have been prescribed or advised to use these emollients on the face or around the eyes.
The MHRA want to remind healthcare professionals of the July 2024 Drug Safety Update on Epimax Ointment and Epimax Paraffin-Free Ointment.
Epimax Ointment and Epimax Paraffin-Free Ointment can harm the eyes if used on the face. These ointments should not be prescribed for use on the face. Patients should be advised to wash their hands and avoid touching their eyes after using these products.
