The Barnett Award 

The Barnett Awards is awarded to members who have made outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the pharmacy profession. The award celebrates individuals who have dedicated their careers to supporting, mentoring, and advancing others, and have instilled a culture of professional development excellence within the profession.  

How to nominate 

Nominations for the Barnett Award are open until 10 July 2026. Nominations can be made via this form. Please contact [email protected] with any questions. 

The Royal College Charter Award 

The Royal College Charter Award recognises work done by a member ‘for the royal college and wider profession’ in promoting the interests of pharmacy at an outstanding level. This isn’t awarded every year, but only when there is a suitable candidate. 

Any Member or Fellow of the College is eligible for nomination, except current Senate or Council members, who have been ineligible for nomination/receipt of the award whilst holding office since March 2020. A panel of elected members assess all nominations and, with input from the Chief Executive and/or Chair of the Panel of Fellows as appropriate, agree the recipient. 

How to nominate 

Nominations can only be made by members of the College’s Senate or National Pharmacy Advisory Councils.  

The Daniel Thomas Award 

The Daniel Thomas Award commemorates the dedicated service to pharmacy by members who have lost their lives while working in pharmacy. 

Any Member or Fellow of the College who have lost their lives while working in pharmacy is eligible for nomination (or endorsement) by a family member. It can be awarded posthumously to any pharmacist who died after 15 April 1841, when the Royal College was first established. If you feel a submission meets the spirit rather than the letter of this guidance, please get in touch, this is an inclusive honour and we are happy to discuss personal circumstances.  

How to nominate 

Email the nominees name, photograph, date of birth and a short biography (max 100-words) for public use to [email protected]. Nominations must be sent or endorsed by an immediate family member.  

Recipients of the award will be announced at our Annual Conference in November. Recipient’s families will receive a personal letter and card acknowledging their loved one’s dedication to pharmacy.

Medals

The Hanbury Medal 

The Hanbury Medal recognises high excellence in the prosecution or promotion of original research in the Natural History and Chemistry of Drugs.  

Any Member or Fellow of the College who is a distinguished pharmacy professional with a long career involving pharmaceutical research and has made a significant contribution to pharmaceutical science is eligible for nomination. They will be a recognised authority within pharmacy and have had a substantial, positive and lasting impact on the field, including actively encouraging juniors to further their knowledge.

The Harrison Medal 

The Harrison Medal is awarded to members for outstanding contributions in advancing pharmaceutical science. It is awarded every two years by the College’s Chief Scientist. 

Members who have a substantial, positive and lasting impact on the field, from all sectors of pharmacy, are eligible for nominations. Nominees must be established in pharmaceutical research and mid-way through their research career. They must be actively advancing the pharmaceutical sciences and encouraging juniors and peers to further their knowledge.
