National Patient Safety Alert
Use of oxygen cylinders where patients do not have access to medical gas pipeline systems.
Published: 10 January 2023
NHS England has published a National Patient Safety Alert on the use of oxygen cylinders where patients do not have access to medical gas pipeline systems. To help NHS organisations prevent risks associated with the use of medical gas cylinders, NHS England has issued a summary of best practice guidance on the ‘Safe use of oxygen cylinders’.
This National Patient Safety Alert asks providers to review the guidance and ensure a risk assessment is undertaken in all escalation/transient areas where patients are being acutely cared for (either temporarily or permanently) without routine access to medical gas pipeline systems.
Further information and actions can be found in the alert.
