Your membership

As a membership body, the Royal College of Pharmacy supports pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists to foster their professional development, enhance practice and drive excellence in patient care.

Pharmacists work across a diverse range of settings including in community pharmacy, across the NHS in hospital, general practice, technical services and care homes, and also in research, industry and academia. They practise at different career stages, increasingly move between sectors, and contribute to evolving models of care across Great Britain.

Our membership reflects this diversity and underpins our role as the professional leadership body.

Professional advice and guidance

We provide confidential, expert professional advice grounded in royal college standards and national policy. Through our dedicated professional support services and helpline, members receive guidance on regulatory enquiries, fitness-to-practise processes, prescribing accountability, ethical dilemmas and workplace concerns. A dedicated prescribing helpline offers additional specialist advice.

Members also benefit from extensive professional and learning resources, including RCPharm Learn, the RCPharm e-library, Medicines, Ethics and Practice (MEP), and The Pharmaceutical Journal. Access to learning resources, research papers, practice guides, credentialing support, mentoring and careers advice strengthens professional development at every stage. Members can also benefit from up to 50% off essential publications, such as the BNF.

Empowering members throughout their careers

Membership is designed to provide essential support from the beginning of a pharmacist’s professional journey. Undergraduate students benefit from free membership of both the Royal College of Pharmacy and the British Pharmaceutical Students’ Association (BPSA), with continued support through foundation training and into advanced and specialist practice.

We offer membership pathways for pharmaceutical scientists, retired or former pharmacists and international members. Discounted rates are available for those on maternity or paternity leave or not working due to illness, and we provide free membership for refugee pharmacists in the UK. These approaches reflect our commitment to diversity and professional belonging.

Members can demonstrate their commitment and standing as a qualified healthcare professional by adding our unique post-nominals after their name. We offer a range of post-nominals to recognise different career stages and honour professional achievements.

Excellence in practice across Great Britain

Members play a central role in shaping our work. Their insight informs the development of professional standards, guidance and education, and ensures our policy and advocacy work remains grounded in real-world practice.

Through conferences, professional events, our ambassador network and dedicated engagement team, we create structured opportunities for collaboration, leadership and shared learning across Great Britain.

By combining professional guidance and meaningful engagement, the Royal College of Pharmacy strengthens resilience across the pharmacy workforce and advances safe and effective care.
